IaaS Market Trends
I just came across this Frost & Sullivan data on the US infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) market that has some interesting slices of data I haven’t seen before. Here are a few things that jumped out at me.
- US IaaS market was approximately $3B in 2012 growing at 60% CAGR through 2016, which is directionally in line with other market estimates from Gartner, Forrester, and others.
- “Improve security and compliance profile” was cited by 25 of IT decision makers as a driver of IaaS adoption. Interesting because you generally see security as a primary inhibitor to adoption, but rarely see adoption drivers related to improving an organization’s security profile. With that said, this same survey showed 58% of respondents expressing “concerns about security risks” as one of the market restraints.
- The data was also broken down by spend for compute and storage, as well as public and private:
- IaaS Compute = 73%
- IaaS Storage = 27%
- Public IaaS = 88%
- Private IaaS = 12%
Is this data consistent with your organization’s use of IaaS? Feel free to comment below.
